  1. Stop and let it cool

    Press Power, open the door and let the drum and the hot air in the cabinet cool for at least 20 minutes. Take the laundry out so hot fabric isn't left piled in the drum.

  2. Wash the lint screen

    Pull the screen, remove the lint and hold it under the tap. If water beads instead of passing through, a fabric-softener film is choking the mesh; scrub it with warm soapy water and a soft brush and let it dry.

    Run the dryer on Air Fluff or a no-heat setting and hold your hand at the outside hood. Strong, steady air is good; a weak puff or a flap that doesn't lift means the restriction is in the duct or hood.

    Unplug the dryer, pull it forward and check the 4-inch transition hose for kinks or flattening. Brush the duct toward the outside, clean the lint from the dryer's outlet and swap vinyl or foil hose for semi-rigid metal.

    Plug in and run a 20-minute timed heated cycle with a few damp towels. If HC returns quickly with good airflow, the fault is more likely electrical (relay, thermistor or voltage) than a blockage.
