- Blown TCM fuse, failed relay or poor TCM ground
- Corroded, fluid-soaked or loose connector at the TCM or at the transmission case pass-through
- Internal TCM failure, especially heat-cycled units mounted inside or on the transmission
- Low battery voltage or a jump start knocking the TCM offline
