Fujitsu General's troubleshooting guide defines error 51 as an indoor unit fan motor error: the board detected that the actual fan speed stayed below one third of the target speed for more than 56 seconds. On wall units without a numeric display it shows as five flashes of the operation lamp and one flash of the timer lamp, with the economy lamp lit. The check covers both a fan that is physically held back and a motor whose speed feedback has failed. A worn or seized motor comes first, followed by debris or a displaced part rubbing the blower wheel. Fujitsu also tells technicians to check the temperature around the motor, because ducted units in hot attics can overheat their fan motors, and the motor connector or the controller board can be at fault too.

Turn the breaker off before looking at the blower. The motor is fed from the indoor board with a high DC voltage and the board keeps some charge after power-off – don't open the electrical cover or unplug the motor yourself.

Watch the indoor unit through at least two cycles: five blinks on the operation lamp, one on the timer lamp, then a pause. Wired controllers show the number directly. Write it down before resetting – the pattern disappears after power-off.
Turn the wheel by hand
With the breaker off, open the louvers on a wall unit and nudge the blower wheel with a plastic or wooden stick. It should spin freely and quietly. Stiff, gritty or wobbling rotation points to the motor bearings or a loose wheel.

Shine a light into the outlet: thick black buildup on the blades or a loose object means the wheel needs cleaning or clearing. Remove only loose items you can reach without tools.
