LG displays OE when the drain pump has run for its allotted time and the water level in the sump is still too high. The LG filter system has two parts, a cylindrical multi filter and a flat stainless mesh filter below it, and both clog with grease if they are never taken out. Beyond the filter, the usual suspects in a US kitchen are the garbage disposal, the air gap and a drain hose squeezed under the sink. The pump itself sits under the tub and is only reachable from below, so pump work is for a technician.

Fix it step by step
Turn off and unplug
Press Power to turn the dishwasher off, then unplug it or switch off the breaker. Pull out the lower rack.

Remove the multi filter
Twist the cylindrical multi filter counterclockwise and lift it out, then lift out the flat stainless mesh filter below it. Scrub both under hot water with a soft brush.

Bail and inspect the sump
Scoop out the standing water and shine a light into the sump. Remove anything that could block the pump inlet, such as glass, bones or labels.

Check the disposal and air gap
On a new disposal, verify the knockout plug is gone. Run the disposal, then remove the air gap cap and clear it.

Straighten the drain hose
Look under the sink for kinks or twists, and make sure the hose isn't pinched against the cabinet wall. If you can't see it all, remove the lower kick plate and trace it from the front.

Reassemble and test
Lay the mesh filter flat, lock the multi filter by turning it clockwise until it stops, restore power and run a short cycle. Watch for OE during the first drain.
How to reset OE
- Turn the dishwasher off with the Power button.
- Unplug it or switch off the breaker for about a minute.
- Restore power, turn it on and start a short cycle. If OE returns during the first drain, the blockage is still there.

When to call a technician
Book a technician if OE comes back with both filters clean, an empty sump and a clear hose, air gap and disposal. A pump that makes no sound at all, or only hums during drain, needs to be checked from underneath the unit.

What's the difference between OE and AE on an LG dishwasher?
OE means water can't get out of the tub fast enough. AE means water got where it shouldn't, into the base under the tub, and the leak sensor tripped. They need completely different fixes.
Is it OE or 0E?
Both are the same code. LG's segment display draws the letter O almost like a zero, so you may see it either way.
How often should I clean an LG dishwasher filter?
About once a month for most households, more often if you load plates without scraping. The mesh filter under the multi filter is the part people tend to forget.
Can I reach the drain pump from inside the tub?
No. On LG dishwashers you can clear the sump opening, but the pump is mounted under the tub. Replacing it means pulling the dishwasher out and working from below.
