TurboFreeze runs the freezer at its coldest setting for about 2½ hours to recover after long door openings or a big grocery load, then switches itself off. Many owners start it by accident, because holding the Freezer pad for about 3 seconds while adjusting the temperature turns it on. Several repair sites describe EF as an evaporator fan code, but GE's own consumer charts don't list EF as a fault; on newer GE models genuine fan problems are logged as numeric fault codes in service mode.   1. Read the display closely

    Look at the exact segments: a lower-case t drawn with the 7-segment display easily resembles an E. If the characters sit where the freezer temperature normally shows, it's the TurboFreeze indicator.

    Hold the Freezer pad for 3 seconds (or turn off Express mode). If the normal temperature reappears and stays, you're done – there was no fault.

  3. Measure the freezer temperature

    Put an appliance thermometer between frozen packages for a few hours. A freezer near 0°F with firm ice cream means cooling is fine whatever the display showed.
