The door locks as soon as Self Clean starts and normally stays locked until the cavity has cooled below about 535°F; F33 appears when the lock doesn't disengage as expected. Miele's own advice is short: turn the oven off to interrupt the program, and if the lock still won't release, call Miele Technical Service. Newer Miele models with a text display show a plain message that the door isn't releasing instead of the number. Either way, the latch must never be forced – it's a motor-driven mechanism inside the front frame.

  1. Turn the oven off

    Switch the oven off at the control. This cancels Self Clean, and Miele notes the lock can only release once the cavity is below about 535°F.

  2. Let it cool completely

    Wait at least an hour with the door closed and the cooling fan running. Trying the handle while the oven is still very hot achieves nothing and strains the latch.

  3. Check for obstructions

    Look along the door edges for a rack, foil or cloth caught between door and frame. Anything pushing the door outward can keep the latch hook loaded so it can't retract.

  4. Power-cycle once cool

    When the oven is cold, turn off its breaker for about a minute and back on. On restart the control drives the lock motor again, which often frees a latch stuck mid-travel.

  5. Try the handle gently

    With the oven on standby, pull the handle with normal force only. If it still won't open, stop – forcing it can snap the latch hook or bend the door hinges.

  6. Call Miele service

    Note the model and serial number from the data plate and book Miele Technical Service. The technician can release the lock from behind the control panel and replace the lock assembly.
