Door won't lock or open: Codes, Causes & Fixes

A washer door that stays locked is usually still doing its job: there is water in the drum, the drum is still turning or the temperature inside is too high. Wait a few minutes after the cycle ends, run a drain cycle if water remains, and only then use the emergency release your manual describes. If the door won't lock at all and the machine shows a lock code, the latch may be misaligned or the door lock switch faulty; oven doors stay locked after self-cleaning until the oven has cooled.
