LG Washing Machine Error OE – Causes & Fix

OE stands for outlet error. The LG control switches on the drain pump and waits for the water-level sensor to read an empty tub; if the level is still up after the allowed drain time, the washer stops and shows OE. On front-loaders the drain pump filter sits behind a small access cover at the bottom front, with a short drain tube beside it for emptying the tub by hand – that filter is behind most OE alarms. LG top-loaders don't have a user-cleanable filter, so an OE there usually means a kinked hose, a blocked standpipe or debris that has reached the pump.

Fix it step by step
Power off and let the water cool
Press Power, then unplug the washer. After a hot or sanitary cycle, wait until the water in the drum is lukewarm before you open anything.

Empty the tub with the drain tube
Open the access cover at the bottom front. Put down towels and a shallow pan, pull the small drain tube out of its clip, remove the plug and let water run into the pan, re-plugging it each time you empty the pan.

Clean the drain pump filter
When the tube stops running, unscrew the filter counterclockwise – a little more water will come out. Clear everything caught in it, rinse it, and check that the impeller behind it spins by hand. Screw the filter back in firmly, re-plug the drain tube and clip it back before closing the cover.

Check the drain hose route
Pull the washer out and follow the hose to the standpipe or laundry sink. Look for kinks behind the cabinet, a hose trapped under a pedestal drawer, or a lint plug at the end of the hose.

Test the house drain
Take the hose out of the standpipe and pour in a bucket of water. If it backs up or gurgles slowly, the drain line is partly blocked and needs a snake or a plumber, not a washer repair.

Run Spin Only and listen
Plug in and run Spin Only (or Rinse+Spin). A steady whoosh of water means the fault is fixed; a hum without flow points to a jammed or failing pump; silence means the pump isn't being powered.

How to reset OE
- Press Power to turn the washer off and unplug it for about a minute.
- Plug it back in, press Power and choose Spin Only or Rinse+Spin.
- Press Start and confirm the water drains; the door unlocks shortly after the tub is empty.
- If OE returns during this test, the blockage or pump fault hasn't been cleared.

When to call a technician

Where is the drain filter on an LG front-load washer?

Why won't my LG door open after OE?
The door stays locked while water is above the door opening or the drum is hot. Drain the tub through the drain tube, or clear the fault and run Spin Only, and it unlocks once the tub is empty.
Can I keep using the washer and just restart when OE shows?
A restart may finish one load, but a partly blocked filter or tired pump usually gets worse. Clean the filter now – it takes about 15 minutes and prevents a flooded pan next time.
