IE stands for inlet error. After Start, the LG control opens the water inlet valve and expects the pressure switch to register the target level within a set time; if it doesn't, the cycle halts and IE appears. LG specifies a supply pressure range of roughly 14.5 to 116 psi, so a partly closed valve, a kinked hose or clogged inlet filters can easily push the flow below what the washer needs. Because LG front-loaders use very little water per fill, even a modest restriction can trigger the code, while the machine may still look like it's getting some water.

Fix it step by step
Check both valves
Open the hot and cold valves fully. If you share a utility sink faucet or a combo washer box, make sure the lever for the washer side is actually on.

Look for kinks
Slide the washer forward and check the hoses at the back of the cabinet. LG front-loaders sit close to the wall, and the hose often folds right at the connector.

Clean the inlet filters
Close the valves, unplug the washer and unscrew the hoses at the washer end. Pull the mesh filters out of the inlet ports with needle-nose pliers, rinse and brush them clean, then reinstall them before reconnecting the hoses hand-tight plus a small snug with pliers.

Measure the supply flow
With a hose disconnected, run the valve into a bucket for a few seconds. A weak stream means the valve itself, a pressure regulator or a well pump problem – not the washer.

Check the drain hose depth
If the drain hose is pushed deep into the standpipe or sealed tight with tape, the fill water can siphon out as fast as it comes in. Use the hose's elbow guide and leave an air gap at the top of the pipe.

Run a test fill
Plug in and start Rinse+Spin, watching through the door. Water should enter through the dispenser within seconds. If you hear the valve click but get no water with a good supply, the inlet valve is likely faulty.
How to reset IE
- Press Power to turn the washer off.
- Unplug it for about a minute to reset the control.
- Open both water valves, plug the washer in and start Rinse+Spin.
- If IE shows again within a few minutes, the supply restriction is still there.

What's the difference between IE and PE on an LG washer?
IE means the washer isn't getting enough water in time. PE means the sensor that measures the water level isn't reading correctly – a component fault that usually needs service.
Can low water pressure cause IE even if water is coming in?
Yes. LG gives a supply range of about 14.5 to 116 psi; below that the fill takes too long and the timer runs out. Weak pressure from a well system is a common cause.
Why does IE only show on warm or hot washes?
The washer uses the hot valve on those cycles. If the hot supply is off, the water heater is shut down, or that hose's inlet filter is clogged, only warm and hot cycles run short of water.
