Not draining: Codes, Causes & Fixes

When a dishwasher or washing machine won't drain, the cause is usually a blockage rather than a broken pump: a clogged filter or drain pump trap, a kinked drain hose, a blocked sink drain or – for dishwashers on a new garbage disposal – a knockout plug that was never removed. Turn the appliance off and unplug it, bail or towel out standing water, then clean the filter before anything else. If the pump hums but no water moves after that, the pump or its impeller may be jammed.
